About
The Brecon Grammar Schools' Association exists to provide a point of contact for former pupils of the Grammar Schools. The Association arranges an annual reunion on the Saturday following Easter, to which members and guests are invited.
The Association also participates in the Annual Awards Evening in July at Brecon High School and a Memorial Service held on or near 11th November at the High School.
In 2023 the constitution of the Old Boys' Association was changed to include former pupils of the Girls' Grammar School and the Association's name was changed to Brecon Grammar Schools' Association (BGSA).
Membership
There are no membership fees. Prospective members should contact Secretary Tom Protheroe to have their name added to the mailing list. Around February each year, members receive invitations to the reunion together with the newsletter.
There are relatively few members from the 1960s, so if there are any Penlan former pupils who would like to come to a reunion we would be delighted to see you. If poor health or distance of travel prevent attendance at events, you can still keep in touch via the newsletter by giving your name to secretary Tom Protheroe using the Contact Us page on this site.
Funding
The Association relies entirely on voluntary donations for its funding. There are opportunities to contribute through the reunion booking form or by making a separate donation. Please contact the Secretary for details.
The Schools
The Association serves former pupils of three schools:
- Cradoc Road School for Boys (1901–1958)
- Penlan School for Boys (1958–1971)
- Girls' Grammar School, Cerrigcochion Road (1901–1971)
